The Austin Community College District (ACC) Board of Trustees met for its regular meeting on Monday, May 9, to hear college and budget updates, swear in the interim board member, and learn about a new mental health pilot program.
Below are highlights from the meeting.
FY 2022-23 BUDGET STUDY
The board received an update as discussions continued on the FY 2023 budget process. Several items will impact the budget, including operating costs of new buildings at Highland and Rio Grande campuses, and the implementation of Workday Student. Other impacts include registration, which is expected to remain flat. The board will discuss employee compensation and tax rate at the June and July board meetings. The new budget is effective beginning September 1.
SWEARING IN NEW, INTERIM TRUSTEE
ACC Board of Trustees welcomed new, interim Trustee, Dr. Manuel (Manny) Gonzalez. The Honorable James Talarico (State Representative District 52) presided. Dr. Gonzalez assumes the place 5 seat which was vacated earlier this year when Trustee Nicole Eversmann stepped down to accept a full-time position with the Texas Association of Community Colleges. Gonzalez will serve the remainder of her term until the November election. Read more about him here.
MENTAL HEALTH PILOT PROGRAM
The board received an update on a new partnership in the works between ACC and the UT-Austin Dell Medical School to establish a pilot program that will provide mental health services to young adults. The grant-funded center will open this fall and serve ACC students between 18 to 30 years of age.
CLOUD-BASED SOLUTION FOR ACC POLICE DEPARTMENT
ACC Board of Trustees unanimously approved allowing administration to negotiate a new contract for a Cloud-Based Solution for Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management System (RMS) for ACC District Police Department (ACCPD). The current system is in-house and outdated. The CAD and RMS provide scalability, performance, and continued availability assurance to address professional implementation services, user training services, and annual maintenance.
