Austin Community College District (ACC) welcomed a new dean of Liberal Arts this fall. DeShaunta Stewart, whose preferred name is Stewart, leads the college's Social & Behavioral Sciences programs.
In this role, Stewart works in close collaboration with Dr. Matthew Daude Laurents, dean of Liberal Arts - Humanities & Communications, to build consistency in vision and processes for the Liberal Arts programs.
"Stewart has a deep commitment to equity. She understands how data can inform decision-making," says Dr. Gaye Lynn Scott, associate vice president of Academic Programs. "She's a collaborative leader and a team player, and we look forward to working with her in support of the students and faculty in Social & Behavioral Sciences."
Stewart previously served as executive dean of Social Sciences at Eastfield College — part of the Dallas College system. Prior to that, she was associate dean of Instruction at City Colleges of Chicago Truman College. She has also held a variety of positions at Houston Community College and San Jacinto College.
In addition to serving as the new dean of Liberal Arts — Social & Behavioral Sciences, Stewart also serves on ACC's Administrative Services Council and the college's Faculty Development & Evaluation Committee.
