On Veterans Day, we pause to honor and commemorate our nation's military — those who have bravely served our nation to protect our freedoms. Austin Community College District (ACC) would like to thank our veterans for their selfless service. The college is honored that more than 150 veterans have chosen to work at ACC. We asked a few of them about their service and what Veterans Day means to them.

Dr. Erasmus Addae is a former Army Specialist. He has been at ACC for three years and currently serves as the associate vice president of Distance Education.

What does Veterans Day mean to you?
To me, Veterans Day is a time to reflect and honor the sacrifices of the brave men and women who served in the Armed Forces to protect our security and way of life. It gives me a sense of pride and honor to be fortunate enough to be among such an elite group of people.

Army Specialist

When were your years of service?
1997-2000

Where did you serve?
Fort McLellan and Fort Hood

Why did you choose to serve in the military?
I was following in a family tradition. My grandfather fought in WWII with his first son, and my father was a graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

How did the skills you learned in the military translate into your life and career afterward?
The military taught me how to adapt, communicate, and work as a team. I learned problem-solving, work ethic, adaptability, leadership, and integrity. These skills have helped in my career since I left the army.

What do you want people to know about our military?
Our military is a force for good around the globe.
