The Austin Community College District (ACC) will host two community conversations in southwest Austin to gather input about a future ACC Pinnacle Campus on the current site near the Y in Oak Hill. The college and its Board of Trustees want to share information about ACC's ongoing districtwide master planning process and to hear from the community about how to best serve the region's higher education and workforce training needs.
"ACC is committed to having conversations about the needs of each community. I am pleased that as a board we are actively engaged in meeting with our constituents to learn the most pressing needs for the area," says Gigi Edwards-Bryant, ACC Board of Trustees chair." Talking with the people who live and work in our communities is instrumental as we evaluate future growth in the district."
"The college is working to build its districtwide master plan. We want to be thoughtful as we look toward the future. We recognize that this is one of our fastest-growing areas in the district," says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president/CEO. "Our vision is to develop a campus that gives our students, employees, and community the type of learning environment they need and deserve. It's important that we work together as part of the process to discuss opportunities and understand how any potential change may affect people."
Plans for Pinnacle's 49 Acres
ACC divided the Pinnacle property into two sections — 49 acres the college is retaining for future development and the existing 10-story building and adjacent nine acres for possible sale. The building closed in summer 2018 for evaluation of needed repairs and renovations. The college hired a real estate firm in April 2019 to assess the value of the building and adjacent property. The college is currently reviewing offers. Any revenue from the sale would be reinvested into the remaining 49 acres.
South Regional Advisory Committee
ACC's South Regional Advisory Committee — tasked with helping strengthen the link between ACC and the community — will co-host the community conversations. At the meetings, the college will share information about regional growth projections, educational priorities, and industry needs.
Community Meetings
The meetings are expected to be held before the winter break. Details including dates, times, and locations will be posted on the ACC website and on the Pinnacle webpage.
