Austin Community College (ACC) District Police are sporting pink badge bands and collecting donations for the Breast Cancer Resource Center of Central Texas as part of their month-long, districtwide Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign.
During October, District Police are accepting donations of new items that will help comfort people going through chemotherapy and/or radiation treatments. A donation box is available at each campus police office. All donated items will be delivered to the Breast Cancer Resource Center at the end of the month.
Accepted items include:
"We want to bring awareness and build moral support for those affected by breast cancer," says Lynn Dixon, ACC District Police Chief. "Several of our officers know first-hand the impact breast cancer can have on a family, so it really touched home."
District Police personnel have been authorized to wear a pink elastic band across their badge as part of their uniform as a show of support to those lives affected by breast cancer.
Monetary donations to the Breast Cancer Resource Centercan also may be made directly on their website.
