Hundreds of students transitioning from foster care will benefit from donations received during this year's Austin Community College (ACC) Luggage Drive.
The 10th annual Luggage Drive raised $1,250 and 44 pieces of luggage. Items were delivered this month to the Center for Child Protection for foster youth graduating from high school.
"This is an important project of love for myself and the Support Center Advocates because we have known students like them — after they transitioned out of foster care, we see the struggles they have gone through in their lives," says Angelica Cancino de Sandoval, Special Support and Grants director. "To be able to give youth like our students this one piece of dignity to start their own lives is an important task. They may someday find their way back into the ACC family, and we hope that they will continue to know how much this community cares."
Organized by the ACC Support Center's Foster Care Alumni program, the Luggage Drive happens every spring.
