San Marcos Goodnight Center closing after spring semester: The San Marcos Goodnight Center will close following the spring 2019 semester at the request of the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District (SMCISD). The school district owns the facility and is looking for ways to serve its growing student population. SMCISD asked that the use of the center be returned to the district. ACC will begin conversations with its school district partners and college stakeholders to discuss next steps and develop programs that will continue to meet the needs of San Marcos students following the closure.
ACC Fest welcomes more than 1,000 guests: Hundreds of prospective students and their families visited ACC Fest Saturday, November 3, to explore college programs and career pathways. The free event featured representation from nearly every area of study and program at the college with live demonstrations, tours, and opportunities to visit with faculty. Guests also visited with staff to get answers about financial aid, career-training, and transfer opportunities.
Inaugural Boots & Bats Gala: Austin Community College hosted its inaugural scholarship gala, Boots & Bats, on Saturday, November 10, in partnership with Amado Peña's Art Has Heart Foundation. Nearly 400 guests attended the gala. The event included live music with Akina Adderley, a live and silent auction featuring art, clothing, jewelry, and entertainment, and delicacies designed and prepared by ACC Culinary Arts students. Nursing Program named 2018 Best of the Best by the Austin American-Statesman poll: The ACC Nursing Program was named 2018 Best of the Best among area nursing programs by the Austin American-Statesman. Winners were voted on by the community in an online poll.
Photography students on the track at F1: A group of 11 ACC photography students joined Photography professor Keith Rizzo at the Formula One U.S. Grand Prix race serving as official photographers for the Circuit of the Americas. Together, they captured more than 100,000 images over three days of racing. Read more about the partnership giving students this unique experience here.
